Our History
ProCare Services was started in 1983 by John & Mary Hasti in Cokato, MN
Services included janitorial, carpet cleaning with use of portable machines, window washing, tile floor maintenance, fire damage clean-ups, limited water damage work.
Service areas stretched into the west suburban areas and a radius from Cokato approximately 30 miles.
Service stretched to reach 100+ miles from Cokato with the addition of theSprint Telephone Co as a regular janitorial customer. ProCare serviced 21 of Sprint’s central office buildings for 17 years until Sprint and Nextel combined companies. In addition ProCare provided restoration
cleaning at 3 of Sprint’s vehicle warehouses, and security light service to all 85 of their buildings.
The business was housed in at least 3 different locations between 1983 and 1998.
Carpet cleaning systems were upgraded to hybrid electric driven truckmount with propane burner for superior cleaning performance over the use of portables.
The business was sold in 1998 to Dean and Lorna Mahlstedt, who at the time, had two boys.
In October of 1998 ProCare was moved to a new location on US Hwy 12 East in Cokato and combined with Masterclean Plus which had been previously started by the Mahlstedts.
Business continued as normal with a growing emphasis on fire and water damage restoration, specialty carpet cleaning and other specialized cleaning and restoration services. Specialized training and certifications by the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) were added to the company profile.
Dean attended training for Critical Incident Stress Management to learn methods of dealing with individuals and families who have experienced traumatic situations and/or loss of loved ones, home, or personal belongings.
June 25 of 2002 proved challenging with heavy rains in the area that generated a waiting list of over 35 customers with wet homes before the end of the day June 26. This flooding event provided tremendous growth for ProCare in water damage restoration work. In 1998 ProCare owned 2 large air movers, 2 box fans, 1 oscillating fan and 1 household dehumidifier. By July of 2002 ProCare had acquired 38 large air movers, axial flow fans, 6 large commercial dehumidifiers, and an array of testing equipment.
On June 27, Dean traveled to Kansas City, MO and Bio Cleaning Services of America to attend a certification training for Biological hazard cleaning services typically associated with with unattended deaths in homes.
In 2003, Dean and Lorna purchased a building at the intersection of US Hwy 12 and Wright County Rd 3, the old Cenex building. The building was in disrepair after having been vacant and owned by MNDot for about 10 years. By this time the Mahlstedts had 4 boys.
ProCare purchased a gas powered truckmounted carpet extraction machine with kerosene burner to improve our cleaning success and offerings into tile and grout restoration.
Fire nearly destroyed the ProCare building on October 7, 2005 early in the morning. Over 90% of equipment, tools and supplies were lost. The primary van with the truckmount and a long list of other specialized equipment were in the building and burned.
By 11am on October 7, 2005 our primary vendor, Hillyard, of Hutchinson had put together a plan to help re-supply ProCare that we were able to service customer jobs that day and forward until we were back on our feet.
By necessity ProCare was moved to the Mahlstedt residence until 2006 when the building on US Hwy 12 was ready to be occupied again.
